Randy Johnson

Also known as "The Big Unit."

Famous for his mullet, his 99 MPH fastball, "Mr. Snappy," throwing the first no-hitter by a Mariner, and for being an all-around red-ass, Randy Johnson is the easily greatest pitcher in Mariner history and perhaps the greatest left handed pitcher of all time.

After learning to throw strikes at the tender age of 28, Johnson's carrer took off. In 1995 he would single-handedly pitch the Mariners to their first divsion title (the team was 27-3 that season when RJ took the hill) and to their first playoff win. Johnson would later become the franchise's first 20 game winner in 1997.

Johnson would be unfairly run out of town by Mariner management one year later, because the higher ups wanted to emulate the fine Red Sox orginization??? I guess? I don't know. I try not to be bitter, but these are the same dumbasses who traded Lowe and 'Tek for Heathcilff Slocumb's 18 baserunners per 9, so who the hell knows what the fuck they were thinking. (Whatever happened to Roger Clemens anyway? I wish the media would keep track of these things). Perhaps due to this distraction Johnson struggled at times in his last season as a Mariner.

There are some M's fans who think RJ took a dive during the 1998 season. Those people are asshats.

*Johnson also caused John Kruk to wet his pants on national TV during the 1993 All-Star Game.
