Jeff Weaver

The Mariners signed Jeff Weaver to a 1 year, $9.85 million dollar contract on January 26, 2007. Fans were horrified. Yes, the man had nearly won the World Series MVP for the Cardinals the previous year, but after watching him get DFA'd by the Angels earlier that season, everyone knew that he wasn't really that good.

The start of Jeff Weaver's 2007 season can only be described as one of the worst stints of pitching in the history of baseball. The following is his actual stats for his first 6 starts in a Mariner's uniform:

0-6, 22 IP, 14.32 ERA, With the opposition hitting .459/.483/.725

Needless to say there wasn't a single LL reader who wasn't calling for an immediate DFA. Instead, on May 11, 2007, Weaver was put on the DL with "sucktasticitis". Weaver returned from the DL on June 9 and then to everyone's shock he was actually a pretty good pitcher for an extended period of time. Then he lost his consistency and started getting shelled again.

Weaver also has a well-earned, and at least passively verified, reputation as quite the party animal, his signing spawned this image:
