George Sherrill

George Sherrill is a relief pitcher with the Mariners. Aside from being a quality reliever, there is absolutely nothing interesting about George Sherrill… or is there?

Hey wait a second. Yes there is!

George's biggest non-familial fan is a regular commentor at LookoutLanding, and is the embattled official president of the unofficial "Free George Sherrill" campaign, headquartered over at MarinersMorsels. Also, the blogger formerly known as "elsid" (now known as "PPL4Life") — also a frequent commentor on LookoutLanding — is George Sherrill's older brother.

One of the biggest things fans of "GS52" (as he's commonly referred to on LookoutLanding) admire about George is that he came to the Mariners via the International Leagues. He was undrafted out of college, and toiled for several years in the IL, playing for such illustrious teams as the Evansville Otters, Sioux Falls Canaries and Winnipeg Goldeyes before catching the eye of former M's scout Charlie Kerfeld, who signed him away from a few other teams who happened to want him, too.

So, yeah, there's definitely SOMEthing interesting about George Sherrill…

Traded to the Orioles with 77 other players for Erik Bedard in the Winter of 2008, where he acts as the Orioles closer. Appears to have forgotten how to bend the brim of his cap.
